I suspect the manufacturer knows how fast the coating scuffs off and causes a problem is my thought.

The Moog upper ball joint is different than some of the others. The rubber boot isn't really attached to the ball joint but rather the bottom of the control arm. The gasket is there to seal the whole cavity because it will now be filled entirely with grease. Whereas with the original ball joints and other aftermarket ball joints have the boot attached directly to them with a snap ring. Hope this makes sense.

Lots of useful info thanks. I need to lower mine and might as well replace ball joints ect.
Did you replace bushings, tie rod ends and bearings also. I put poly bushings in a Mustang I had and it made a big difference.

Already had poly sway bar bushings. I did replace the lower control arm bushings with Prothane Polyurethane. Very easy. Didn't bother with the upper control arms and likely won't. FWIW the original factory bushings were all still in excellent shape. No dry rot, still pliable. It was a "while I'm in there thing".
