Default Start up question

1989 stock, auto trans

For those of you who replaced your head gaskets ( L98 ), did your car start up and run correctly right away, or did you have to make adjustments to get it running correctly. I am very close to starting mine and I just want to know what to expect

I still waiting for upper plem bolts to come in mail, but I did start it up. Fired up right away but would not stay running without working throttle back and forth to keep it from quitting. I know, but I just couldn't wait. I sure hope it's just the extra air it's getting from not having bolts in upper plem on both sides. Be easy on me

Mine started right up. But you will still have to set timing. If you marked everything else and adjusted valves correctly, it should only be timing.

After 3 months, head gasket change, delete cats, delete egr, new injectors, new exhaust, my last part comes in today. Never did anything like this before, but will find out later today if it will start up and run. If it doesn't, someone could be getting a good deal. Very nervous

my 85 started right up - sorta. I did have a 2-second issue with the fuel priming circuit, but after a couple cranks, oil pressure kicked in the fuel pump and started w/o effort. as long as everything is connected, timed within a couple degrees of spec, fuel and spark, it should go. my fuel priming issue was solved with a new ECM. good luck. DON'T GIVE SOMEONE THAT GOOD DEAL JUST YET!
