Default Engine Pull, Leveler to engine WHERE?

If I understand a recent post, I can bolt the chains on opposite sides using the(4) holes for the exaust manifold.
Should I be concerned about:
1.The weight of the chain across the Aluminum heads gouging them?
2.The bolt holes striping or cracking?
3.If I don't hook them up there where?
I guess the manifold holes are used because their easier to get to?
Thanks

Dont worrie about the chain crossing the heads and just make sure you have the exhaust bolt all they way in then you sute be ok.

I always use holes in the block (iron vs aluminum). I use the ones that bolt the accessory brack on, and the one that has the harness ground on the front, and then the bellhousing bolts in the back. I also found the leveler to be more of a hinderence that a help.

I use the exhaust bolt holes myself. I dont think the aluminum vs iron is a problem, seeing as you are splitting the load over 4 holes, and I have never had a problem with it. I usualy fold up some rags, and put them between the chain and the aluminum heads to keep from scratching/gouging the heads. You could also use a small block of wood.

In my shop we pull engines using the aluminum heads all the time. Think about it this way Honda and Toyota are all alum block and heads.

With my luck, I would have some problem if I pulled it just using the bolts into aluminum. Not saying everyone (or anyone) will, but Murphy lives in my garage. ;)

As soon as I can get the wife off to work this AM, the exaust manifolds are coming off and I will use them. Thanks.
