Default Car shut off

I own a 1989 Z51 6 spd Stock Corvette. I was driving last night and the car seemed to hesitate. I noticed I was loosing speed and started to pull to the shoulder. I put the car in neutral and the tach immediately went to zero. I put the car in 5th gear and the engine fired up and I drove home without incident. This is the second time this has happened. I drove in this morning with out any problems. Last night I was driving near 80 mph. Today 60 mph.
The fuel injectors are new 500 miles, the fuel pump has about 6000 miles on it.
Any contribution will be appreciated.

Thank you
Joe

Assuming filters for fuel are clean, sock on the pump and the inline one on high pressure side, my bet is ignition module and or coil are over heating.

Step 1 is that you need to determine if it's spark or fuel Hard to do when it "starts right back up".

Install a fuel pressure gauge and tape to windshield so you can monitor it.

When it dies, try keeping the clutch engaged so the engine is still spinning, note your tach; if tach goes to 0, you lost your tach signal and have no spark.

What year car?

First of all very sorry for not getting right back to you.
I first read this post on my phone and just scanned it. It now makes a lot of sense.
So if I lost spark would it be the ignition module. And the tack did go to zero. But, frankly I was not paying attention to whether the engine was spinning or not. Hopefully I will not this happen again. But, if it does I will take note.

The car is a 1989 stock Corvette. I had an SES code that has been coming up. It was a code 34 the MAP sensor. I cleaned the air filter and replaced the MAP relays I have not tested the car yet. The air filter had to dry. K & N type.

Does any one know where I can download the owners manual. I am playing around with my ventilation system and want to know how it is supposed to work. I just repaired my rear window defogger and I have to change the blower motor control presently it is disconnected.

The temperature indicator flashes on and off. Sometimes I can press the off button and it will stop.

Thank you

So I was driving the Corvette and it stalled. After a few minutes it restarted. Then in 6th gear it stalled again. Again I waited and it restarted and after a few minutes tried to stall. I down shifted and fed gas. The car did not stall.
It seems that under load the car stalls at low RPM. On the way home I had to stop at red lights. The car idled perfect. No problemo. I drove home at 1600 rpm or more and the car ran fine. Any suggestions?

Thank you

Ever change your fuel filter? I would tape a fuel pressure gauge on the windshield. Might be a plugged cat too.

I changed it once when I first bought the car. The old fuel pump was COVERED in rust. A fuel filter change can't hurt.
Does the car have a high and low fuel feed. Or do both lines always feed.
Thank you

I did not clean the tank. I did change the whole fuel pump assembly. The old one was so rusted I could not justify putting it back into the car. I will change the fuel filter.

But if the filter is clogged why will the car idle and run at speed. But, it will not run at say 1300 rpm in gear.
Is this a fuel pressure regulator problem?
Can a car with a bad regulator idle but not cruise under a light load.

Thank you and I will be changing the fuel filter. Does not make sense. But I have to try something. I am going to pull the pump and look at the screen. Again makes no sense.

I would try the pressure gauge and see what it does. Check vacumm lines egr and how old is your o2 sensor? Pull the vacumm line of the fpr and smell for fuel.
