Default Engine Oil Cooler Advice.

I sold my 1995 Automatic and now have a 1996 CE Lt4. I have a Dewitt's radiator originally purchased for an Auto Trans, since it will have an Auto-Tranny oil cooler, and I now have a Stick, I need some advice on whether I should cool my oil with the un-used cooling ports? Or will it be just another system that could leak?

BTW, I only drive about 100 miles a month, and try to drive WOT as much as possible.

The hottest I've seen my oil in the short time I've owned my '92 is around 222 degrees F. The recommended oil for our vettes is synthetic and I use 10w30 Mobile 1 which protects up to an oil temp of 500 degrees F.

I wouldn't mess with the additional plumbing and fittings.

I wouldn't go through the trouble of using it as an oil cooler. The LT1 and LT4's don't really need it.

I wouldn't use the transmission cooler for engine oil. The fittings are too small, 3/8 tubing is pretty restrictive for all your oil to pass thru.

As the other posts mentioned. I would not waste my time in trying to use the automatic transmission cooler in the radiator.

If you feel you need an oil cooler due to running your engine at full throttle all the time. I would look into one made for that purpose specifically.

And if not....possibly change you oil change intervals.
