Default Rear end question

Hey guys i bought a 84 corvette a couple of months ago and i just notice when i accelerate it slightly pulls to the left and when im not on the gas its is slight to the right. The pervious owner had a new rear end put in and i was wondering if something wasnt tightened down properly or what would cause this to happen. Thanks

I'd jack it up & look for loose parts in the front & rear.

I would start my checking the toe rod ends...since they most directly influence the 'steering', or direction, of the rear wheels.

I would jack up the back, look for loose parts and if none are found have it aligned at a good alignment shop. Changing the rear end is different than changing the bushings in the rear suspension. I have a unique application but it took quite a bit of work to get the rear end right.

Good luck, Chris

This may or may not have anything to do with your specific issue, but I noticed similar problems with my 1990. While working on the suspension I discovered that the half-shafts would easily pull out of the differential. After asking for help here on the forum and a lot of research I found out there are two C-clips that keep the shafts solidly seated into the differential. I pulled mine apart and found that the clips were laying in the oil. I ordered new clips and installed. It has made a big difference in a number of ways. It might be something you should look into.

Here is a link to a video showing a Corvette with the same problem. When you watch it, keep an eye on the area where the driver's-side half-shaft fits into the differential. You can see it moving in and out as the car corners.

Check your u-joints on the drivers side half shaft and the bearing on that side, they could be shot. The half shaft is a stressed member in that suspension and when the u-joints fail it does exactly what you describe.

I would guess it is most likely to be the toe rods, but it could also be u-joints or even wheel bearing related. I think your best bet is to jack it up and see if anything is moving around or loose. If nothing seems bad when your under the car then have the alignment checked. Best of luck.

Hi.
Sorry if this might be a stupid question, but first of all did you check the tirepressure?
I noticed that behavior at my truck when one tire has less presure.
Might be the easiest to check first.
