Default intermediate steering shaft

I recently did a set of full length headers on my 89 and the steering shaft has under a 16th of space between header and shaft, slightly rubs and I don't want to dimple header, the 86-90 shaft is very thin and hollow so cant file or turn down shaft, in looking at pics on ebay the newer shafts 91 and up appear to be solid and thinner in diameter, does anyone know if I can use it and is it indeed thinner and or solid? im assuming the change in shafts has something to do with going to airbags?

You want a GM# 26022830 which is essentially '92+ base Corvette. It was also used on the '90 & '91 ZR-1/LT5 but when listed on eBay they're often mentioned as '90+. I can't confirm the actual dimensions for you but dependent upon where you shop that might help you.

Post the diameter of yours and I'd think someone wouldn't have a problem measuring and posting the diameter of their '92+.
