Default DIY ALDL cable

I am working on creating my own ALDL USB cable for use with my Surface Pro. I have purchased all the pieces I believe that are required. Does anyone know what cables need to be hooked up to what?

1991 ZR-1.

Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/301969270117

What could go wrong here. I believe you can buy the ready made cable.

Unknown to me is how the converter on the USB is set up BUT

I used a Sparkfun USB to 232 converter.. so based on that:

- Red wire: 5V - Not used
- Black wire: GND - Ground og ALDL
- White wire: RXD - connect with TXD, then to the ALDL Data pin (M?)
- Green wire: TXD - connect with rXD, then to the ALDL Data pin (M?)
- Yellow wire: RTS - Not Used

Wire colors and pins are taken from the eBay link.

I have just browsed their forum in the past for a friend to sort a couple questions and always got results. I don't have his user id and haven't seen him for a couple years.

A Search on their link for "Windows 10" got a very interesting response. A simple request that I see posted for cable help has gone unanswered for maybe several days. A well worded thought out request I'd think might get a response!

Post back - there's often hurdles with USB/Serial and my USB/Serial adapter has never failed.

I started on this project. When I cut the ALDL cable in half I don't see a black/ground wire. The colors are BROWN, ORANGE, YELLOW, and RED. Most blogs say to hook up the ground from the FTDI cable to the 12 PIN connector, but there isn't a black wire in the bunch.

Thoughts?

I got it all figured out and it works great.

Take the Black wire from the FTDI USB cable, mentioned earlier, connect it to the BROWN cable from the ALDL connector. The Green and White wires from the FTDI cable to the RED of the ALDL cable.

FTDI Color -> ALDL Connector
GREEN->RED
WHITE->RED

BLACK->BROWN

Hopefully this helps others. It was really easy to make and took about 20 minutes total(don't know how to solder properly). Cost is around $15-20.
