yes I have the service manual, not really finding info I need. never found in manual how to remove head lamp ****, figured that out on my own. how about removing the reverse lockout ring so I can replace shifter boot. Thinking I depress a small indent there but not sure. any help? its an 89
Set screw in the lift ring. I don't recall the size but I'd think you'll have no issues. Need to be cautious I expect when reinstall is done. I'd think the aged plastic won't tolerate excessive torque. I believe that many find lift-ring is broken or breaks when they remove it. Age!!
Lift-ring comes with set screw and I believe still available. GM# 10079757 from dealers or the resellers.
I bought a replacement with that part number (10079757) a couple years ago. It was only about $20.
A word of caution too. The set screw does not need to be very tight. It does not work on clamping the inner rod by pressure/friction alone. The internal rod had a groove that the set screw fits in. The set screw catches that groove when lifting the inner rod, so most of the lifting force is based on the screw extending into the groove. The set screw only needs to be snugged up and not overtightened to cause the cracked plastic.
