I recently bought an 85 and had a chec engine code. I pulled the code 43 using a paper clip. Haynes says its a knock sensor problem. I have no idea what or where the knock sensor is. Should it be replaced or is this a symtom of another problem. Any help will be appreciated...Thanks.

1)Haynes says its a knock sensor problem.
2)I have no idea what or where the knock sensor is.
3) Should it be replaced or is this a symtom of another problem.
4)Any help will be appreciated...Thanks.
1) If you want to believe them...but more correctly it is a problem within the circuit itself.
2) THe sensor is in the passenger side of the block. The ESC module is on the oputboard side of the blower motor.
3) I would verify it was bad before I spent money replacing it.
Re: Code 43...Knock Sensor. I need help (dacarlto)
I have an 85 also and had a code 43 come up the other day when i plugged in a scan tool....I simply cleared out the code and haven't had any problems with it since and it hasn't came back up either.....Try getting somebody with a scan tool to clear out the codes and see if that doesn't solve the problem
If that doesn't work, a lot of the times the problem is in the circuitry itself and is usually the ESC (Electronic Spark Control) module....The Haynes manual does show it being attached to the side of the blower motor, but as i found with mine, that's wrong....It might just be my car cause goodness knows it's been through enough, but my ESC module was actually on the driver's side attached to the fender well under the master cylinder...Like I said though, that's just my car so don't hold me to my word that that's where your's is
But definitely get the codes checked with a scan tool first and try to clear them out....It could save you a few dollars and be a lot easier than going through all the circuitry tryin to find the problem
