93a4 upshift
During spirited acceleration, I think I should be able to very quickly let off the gas , and the tranny should instantly upshift, so I could get right back on the gas.
Well, it doesn't.
Shifts normally at partial throttle. Is this an adjustable thing?
What I don't know about automatic transmission inner workings is a lot...

Possibly it would depend if governor pressure would exceed TV/line pressure to allow shift. Even then depending on how hard you reapplied throttle, you could cause forced downshift. Normally, if shift cable is misadjusted all shifts are off. Making sure it is set correctly is a good place to start. A "shift kit" would change the shift characteristics. I'm not sure it will make it shift the way you want it to automatically. It should be able to allow for manual shifting.
