Default ignition key

if I change the ignition key lock will the new work on the vats system or do I need to match the resister to the vats

A new cylinder will come with a "brass work key" that rotates the cylinder only. You take that work key and have the mechanical code cut to the resistance blank of the correct value. Your old keys become trash!!

You need to match the new key resistor to the old resistor (that's what the VATS needs to see). The new cylinder has new contacts that connect to the resistor in the key.

Or you can bypass the VATS system. Lots of videos out there on how to do it, I happen to like this guy's method. He also makes good videos IMHO.........
