Default Question about the chip

I have the stock chip in my car right now but I bought a Hypertech a couple years ago and it made my car run worse. It didn't come with any instructions, so I just swapped them out. According to Hypertech, I have to mount the stock chip on the new one in order for it to work correctly. My question is would I be better off using the Hypertech, the stock, or a custom made chip? If custom is the way to go, how would I go abouts doing it? Could I program it myself?

The hypertech is garbage. Dyno proven to lower your horespower clear across the board. If you want an aftermarket chip you can get a custom one from Ed Wright, http://www.fastchip.com or Craig Marcho here on the forum is supposed to be good.

In any case though you will be hard pressed to beat the stock program unless you have some serious engine modifications.

GM made numerous changes to the BIN in the chips during the life of the car. If you want the latest BIN for your car, order the MemCal with the part number for your car (*not* the BIN number on the EEPROM, but the 8-digit GM number) and you'll get the latest BIN for it.

It sounds complicated, but if you call up Jeff Kopp and give him your engine, trans, rear axle, and a couple other things I can't recall right now, he can get you the correct MemCal for your application. For any given year, there are something like 18 different BINs, so it's importent to get the right part number.

It does make a difference. Spark timing, injector pulse width, and fan temps were changed on my BIN.

Hypertech is hypercrap.

With your mods, the stock chip will work perfectly. Unless you wished to have your fans come on sooner, then i would try Craig Marcho (Marcho Polo on the forum ECM section).

Now, if you had major mods, like cam/head porting...etc., then i would go with Ed Wright at Fastchip.com.

There is a FAQ on the ECM section that would tell you what you needed to burn your own chip too.
