I'm missing half of the speakers in my 1985, and was just going to replace with some nice newer ones. I'm trying to figure out what I need to replace them with, and to me, they look like a 4" speaker would fit like factory. However, Crutchfield says that's the wrong size. I originally had the Bose audio system, although who knows what's been done in the last 30 years to this car. Anyone done a speaker replacement and have some good tips?
I used a 3 way 4 inch speaker I bought from onlinestereo.com. I had to use a dremel to cut away some plastic surround to make the surface flat as the stock speakers has 3 holes and after markets have 4. That way I could still use the Bose speaker covers.

Ok, cool. Sounds like it wasn't a terrible process though.
Now I'm curious, though-did you have speakers under the dash? I haven't removed my dash panel but there are speaker covers there.
Speaker covers are on the dash pad with or without Bose. If you have (or had) a Bose unit there should be no speakers there unless a previous owner put them there.
The problem I had with after market speaker covers was making sure the cover was not crushed when the door was closed. That's why I still use the Bose covers.
