LT-1 Mufflers?
Well, guess the vette mufflers are model line specific. Not that many LT1 vettes out there really. The LT1 Vette was only around for 5 years, which leaves little room for mass production. This is all conjecture on my part.
Oh, and it's called Corvette Tax. :smash:
I found them neato sounding... very muscle car... but also very annoying at highway speeds.
the other thing was a loss in low rpm torque.
since then, I installed Corsa's.
and nothing compares.
I heard that comapanies do not make too many replacement mufflers for the LT-1's because the phylum of sensors become messed up if you change the interrior pressure and resonance of the stock exhaust system with aftermarket mufflers.
That is why you see companies make whole exhaust systems from the pre-cats back to help sustain a constant pressure and ressonance (like Flowmaster's system, I was contemplating on purchasing it, until I saw it was around $800 or Borla's for like $1200  )
Other mufflers that offer full performance without messing up the interrior ressonance or pressure cost like $400 or $500. I am not making mine into a track beast or road racer so a small improvment over stock is fine with me. Take your pick, there is no limit except the bottom of your wallet.
Here is what I want to do...I want to take the resonator off, replace with 2 straight pipes the same size as the rest of the exhaust and then put in a H pipe to cut down resonance and replace the 2 stock mufflers with 2 new mufflers, however I don't know what 2 mufflers to go with? As I stated before, it is hard to find just the mufflers that are specific to the LT1 and when you do they are very expensive. Thats why I was wondering what the big deal is about the "specific to LT1 mufflers" thing is. Is the specificality more for the sound or for flow? Or combonation of both? Can I substitute a high flow turbo muffler or something of the like and still gain the extra HP that is lost from the original exhaust, but in doing so might not sound as good?

I have seen the DynoMax Turbos in mags for alot cheaper, which is the main reason I was inquireing this forum about the more expensive brands. If you get close to the same performance, I think it would be worth saving 350 - 400 bucks for the pair. But if it's not much more performance over stock, I don't want to waist money on them, and instead just go ahead and get say the corsa's for around 500 a pair.

As for concrete evidence that it improves performance, no. I have no time slips before or after the modification and no dyno tests, so I only have my word of mouth from experience. I replaced the mufflers, the intake with a 94' intake box and K&N and cleaned the throttle body and intake all at the same time. I will tell you I noticed a difference in throttle response and smoother acceleration but that could be a result of everything I did. :D
From data I know the following:
Stock LT1 Mufflers = 225 cfm
Dynomax Super Turbos = 410 cfm
Flowmasters = 362 cfm
CORSA states "Unrestricted straight-through muffler design increases exhaust flow by 42%" (Right from their website)
So if you divide by 7, carry the 2, say forget this and get the calculator:
225 + (225 X 42%) = 225 + 94.5 = 319.5 cfm
So if you go on numbers, the Dynomax Super Turbo Mufflers flow the most air by far, CORSA claims a deeper sound at high RPM's (Probably created by interrior packing, limiting air flow) So if you need the most air coming out if the mufflers, the Dynomax Mufflers are the way to go. Although they might take away from tourque, they will improve airflow increasing horsepower.
Hope some of this helped!

Yep, thats the resonator, I've been told you can replace that with straight pipes with a cross over pipe in there, and it will basically do the same thing as the resonator only without the back pressure.
Thanks for the #'s, that is interesting on the advertised flow!
Thanks again
