Default 1992 INFL REST warning lamp Came on today

When starting our 1992 C4 today the INFL REST warning lamp came on. It stayed on for the the twenty minute ride to my son's job. After dropping him off, I turned the engine off, and then back on and the INFL REST light went off.

I have searched on here about the sensor being a problem, and how to fix it on cars up to 1991, but have not found anything on correcting the problem on a 1992.

Does anyone have a photo showing the location of the sensor? I read I should take it off and sand the connection so it will ground properly.

I have a hunch the sensor light will come on again, so I might as well fix the problem now.

you need to jumper the diagnostic connector and pull the SRS codes.

Jumper A and K on the ALDL connector, turn key to run (do not start) Infl rest will flash 7 to 9 times then will flash code 12 any additional codes present will follow. (codes are 2 digits separated by a pause)

Detailed process starts on page 9J-A-15 of FSM specific diagnostic flows for each code follow

Thanks for the help!

I'm suprised the INFL REST light went out after I turned the engine off, and didn't come back on while I was driving the 20 minutes back home.

It's my son's car, and he bought a code reader for it when he got the car, I will ask him where it is when he gets off work.

Yeah, that is pretty common for it to go on-off-on again.

Brian is correct on the procedure and really remember to erase the history with your code reader. If you don't erase the code, the light will just come back.

I drove the car last night and today, and the INFL REST light would flash about six times on start-up, but the light would go out and stay off after that.

I did notice the orange color behind the speedo appears to lose a little color at idle, but goes full orange when I step on the gas pedal. I had Batee.com repair the speedo last summer, so I'm starting to think I have a loose ground somewhere - anyone have a clue on where I should look first?

Update: I have been driving the car all week and the INFL REST light has not come back on. I guess I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best.

INFL REST - Is an airbag sensor, or so I've heard.

INFL REST is in the DIC. It indicates an error in the airbag system. At the time referred to as "Inflatable restraint" thus the abbreviation. it is used from 90-93.

In 94 they changed it to read Air Bag.
