I need some help from my forum brothers. Recently, my digital dash in my 84 has become very dim. Still readable but difficult. If I turn the lights on or shine a light at the light sensor, the dash becomes brighter. The dash dimming switch doesn't seem to make a difference. Any help? Thanks
Just want to make sure of the basics... Are the 4 bulbs working?
Most of the time the dim/dark dash is because one or more of the bulbs are not working. They can be replaced in about 15 minutes from the front without pulling the cluster.
They can be checked by pulling the black trim that covers the cluster and looking at or around the four silver caps that are in front of the bulbs. That should show you if they are working or not.

It is a place to start.
Good luck.
Yes, all bulbs working fine. When I turn on the parking lights or headlights, the dash lights up normally. If I shine a flashlight at the sensor, the dash illuminates normally. Doing a search, I need to check grounds, fuses and tail lights. Thanks

Hi
The usual problems are the photocell, that you were shining a light at.
Another issue is the board connector, happened to me after driving on a corrugated dirt track. The backlights went off and was due to the connector pins and connector bad connection, in my case the high beam light and indicator globes on dash illuminated at the same time.
The connector overheats and causes a bad connection causing backlight problems, batee has cheap kits to fix these issues.
