a friend of mine is building a old school hot rod - small block w/ headers. has shorty plugs - i'm thinking they are accel's - ???

google "shorty spark plugs for header clearance" - several options.

I use standard length AC Delco Rapid Fire #5s on my 113 heads with Hooker long tubes and have never had a problem. I changed the plugs last week and it took about 45 minutes.

I already use AC Delco Rapid Fire 5 but on one place the spark plug is too close to the header and melting the rubber boot .

I run the msd "race" plug boots, then i picked up a cheap set of thermal protectors off of amazon.

My #2 plug nearly touches the header, but i have not had any issues for over a year now.

This is the best picture i have on my phone, this was during the build stage...

Found this answer on Summit racing . Is 0,708 reach i need ?

I have a chevy ZZ3 crate motor, clinder head # 10088113, will these spark plug work in this application,it now has the accel 576s.I would like to use the deeper plus if they will work. go from the .460 to the .750 deep with the washers.they are the aluminum heads.

Answer

The heads you have are listed as tapered seat .75 reach. These spark plugs have a gasket (flat) seat and will not work. I am fairly certain that exhaust gases would always expel around the plug threads. You would have better luck with the accel 0526-4 with the 0.708 reach. Autolite also has several options with taper seat and 0,708 reach. Champion 224 or 297 have the 0.75 reach.
