nice! I didnt even know that place existed! I was googling stuff but it never came up for me.

Also, they dont look at all like what I expected so I wonder if this has the right cap on it? It currently has a black plug in the back and then maybe these two on the front?

Looks like five wires total?

Theyve all been spliced which throws off the colors but the rear ones are brown and yellow into the factory plug.

Stupid photobucket going down there are so many pictures lost. I cant find a picture of what an OEM distributor cap looks like plugged in.

love the thread! Congrats on saving a beauty from the scrap yard.

+1 to "de-bubbaing" as much as you can. It'll definitely save you headaches later on. As to what that distributer wiring should look like I'll let somebody with a pre-oopti car chime in

taylor send a msg over to dmittz and ask him for a pic of the distributor instaled with respect to the super ram.

i should have twigged on this before but maybe the PO couldnt get the dizzy facing the stock direction and had to rotate it 180deg. which then meant he had to extend the harness to get that extra couple inches.

im about to put a super ram on so ill be right there with you soon.

cheers.

I think the plug on the cap would hit the back of the plenum so I think you are right. One of the wires was just electrical taped together lol. came right apart. Strange thing is I cant get it to run even using jumpers.

I need to find the coil wiring diagram.

I just put a super ram on my 88' and I just used the stock distributor, it fit just fine behind the plenum. I'm running about 6 degrees base timing advance right now and have a fair bit of room to adjust the distributor without it hitting the plenum. Here's some pictures that I hope will help you out...

I don't have a lot of time right now but I'll try to stop in later and lend any advise I can.

So it does fit in that orientation. Who knows why they hacked mine up.

Thanks for pictures!

I JUST realized looking at your distributor pictures your distributor is out 180degrees. That is proabbly why the harness was extended by the previous owner.

If you refer to my pictures above, you'll see I am using the stock distributor, and it still fits ok behind the super ram in the correct orientation.

I installed the runners and plenum with the distributor already in place, I did have to take the cap off of it to get the one plenum bolt tightened down but other than that I had no issues using it in the stock orientation.

Hope that helps you out and all the best on getting this sorted out. I'll be following this thread goimg forward, so if I can help in any other way let me know.

Are these the only plugs into the coil from the harness?

I am away from the car but I want to order parts for when I get back from this trip

Those aren't correct for your "coil in cap" HEI. Those look to be for a TBI etc that used a remote coil.

I ain't never used one of these but it might be ideal particularly with you rewiring some of your car. Originally there would have been a single spade for coil and another for the tach lead. This looks to be a "one and done".

Here's OE if you actually wanted to do singles. You can do singles for less locally I'd think and i just added the link for the "image" to compare.

thanks! Looks like what I need. I can drive down to summit to pick them locally I think.

12v and a tach lead... guess its enough to not let the car start?

downloading the FSM now

i'm not sure if I have ever seen this, but I would suggest going with the OEM set up with two separate plugs in the event that one of them alone needs to be removed for some sort of diagnoses in the future.
