Hi guys - my '86 has started making a "ticking" noise this weekend. The noise is coming from the engine, under the intake area. I haven't driven it much since it started, but whatever it is, it hasn't effected the way the car runs, etc. (well yet anyway :( )
Might be a noisy injector. Get a long screwdriver and place it a diff places around the manifold and put your ear to the end too see if you can pin point it
would be a weak lifter or the injectors ticking, i know there is one other thing that could cause it because i had it with my old Bronco, but i cant remember
Hmmmm....Well that's good news if true. I just got bigger injectors put on it less than a thousand miles ago. Hopefully it's something like that which won't cost any $ to fix.
exhaust leaks can be mistaken for lifters, see that post i made a few days ago  if you use metal exhaust gaskets and they become loose it won't sound like a normal leak. go over the bolts, check them, check the injectors, check the rocker arms & make sure nothing is loose..i'm sure you'll come up with something :)
Well a friend of mine who used to own a 94 Z28 told me to take the valve cover off, and listen for loose lifters *rockers* whatever u wanna call what makes it tick. He said do this while its running, and gave me detailed instructions on to listen and tighten what ones were ticking, after completion. No more tick. Although after listening closely to the sounds after the ticking had gone away i heard a hissing noise, found a vacume leak, plugged it for now becuase i didnt know where it went.. Car can go WOT throttle now for some odd reason. Hammers.... The vacume hose is the one that is nearest the back side of the plenuim, there are 2 on the passenger side on an 85...No im not talking about the Fuel Pressure Reg, its above that on the metal. Both are plugged now...1 was plugged when i got it, the other i plugged...ANyone got any ideas?

It was suggested that you use a screwdriver and your ear to locate the noise. An easier way, at least for me, is to get a piece of hose (garden, heater) and by listening at one end while placing the hose at various places around the engine, it amplifies the noise better. The flexibility of the hose makes it easier to use in and around the tighter spots.
A "ticking" noise could be a rocker arm, obviously caused by a loss of pressure in a lifter. I've had them go away after a while. Just another thought.
C4dreams, your car looks identicle to mine, it looks like it's got the silver interior too, too cool. Sorry just got done studying 6hours for midterms, I'm excited about anything
