On the thermostat housing bolt, that is the EGR solenoid valve.

Thank you very much, I'm coming up with Exhaust Gas Recirculation switch is that accurate? Also do you think it work ok if it were mounted somewhere else?

Yep thats accurate! It is supposed to have a vacuum line running to it from egr if I remember correct. Doesnt really matter where its mounted as long as line is there.

Might have two vacuum lines, I don't remember how many mine had.

This is where that is mounted on my 86, and yes it has 2 lines running to it.

To clarify the vacuum line configuration, one vacuum line comes from the bottom of the throttle body. The other vacuum line goes to the EGR valve. This is kind of an exploded view of the vacuum line:

A wee addition to Cliff's: the component electrically (ECM) switches the pneumatically operated EGR valve (spring closed), using vacuum; hence it needs a source of vacuum a the line to the EGR.

Thanks for your input whalepirot, in otherwords you're saying for the throttle body or the EGR valve to work correctly I should hook up that vacume line that Cliff shows in one of his photos?

Yes. One line runs to intake for a vacuum, the other runs to the EGR, when the solenoid is commanded by the ECM it opens. This then causes the vacuum from the intake to open up EGR valve. So for proper operation of EGR you would need both hooked up.

Thanks, the previous owner disassembled that apparatus and that vac line is no where to be seen. There is a Vette salvage yard near me that deals in nothing but early C4 parts so good chance they might have it, Thanks again.
