Default Dash light

Hello all,
1987 Corvette coupe auto 60000 miles. I had my dash re-soldered 2 years ago, along with new lights. Everything has been working fine until a month or so ago. I noticed that there is a silver dollar sized brighter illumination, for lack of a better term, on the RPM side. The attached picture will show the blemish. I will also do a search but it may be an odd issue that somebody has experienced before. Not a big deal but my OCD may get the best of me so before I pull it out I'd like to know if it is something that can be fixed easily. Thanks for any advice

Kevin

That looks like the classic polarizing film problem. Batee can supply replacement film or replace it if you send your dash to him.

Default That darn polarizing film....

I agree with the previous response as there are not many things there that could cause this. My Polarizing film was 28 years old and after making the change the dashboard was so much easier to read, day or night.

I replaced my polarizing film on my 1988 and it was not a big issue or even hard to do if you have the dashboard out of the car. Just be careful to get the orientation of the film the right direction or you have to start over again. I ended up using sticky notes on the film as I almost put one in upside down....

I would definitely get in touch with Bryan Thompson of Batee.com as he is the expert on this stuff. He can get the film to you in a hurry along with instructions. I am a very satisfied customer of his and recommend him highly to anyone with any kind of dashboard issue. He also helped me fix my C68 A/C controller with parts and advice.

While you are at it you might want to make sure that the bulbs are replaced and any other fixes so you don't have to remove the dash again any time soon. Again this is where Bryan is so helpful as with his experience you can save yourself a bunch of headaches.

I bought all the parts from him and made the fixes myself, very worthwhile time to replace those 30 year old parts (electrolytic capacitors especially) that will fail if they have not already.

That picture of yours was very helpful, I had never seen one do that before. We can all learn here, that is one of the great things about this forum. Let us know when you get it fixed so we can all learn from this experience!

Have a great day and I hope that you can resolve this easily!
