Default Valvetrain/engine build...opinions/recomendations

Now to get ALL the responses I want, I thought I'd title it:

"Waterwetter WORKS"

"Airbox cut mod adds 15HP"

"Airfoil should be 1st mod"

BUT I digress

I am really looking for as many Corvette Tech/performance opinions & recommendations

My car is a 96 A4 getting 3.07 gears, LT headers and a 3200 vigilanti or Yank TC. (which would you get Yank or Vig??)

I'm getting the LE2 package from Lloyd Elliott with a hotcam type cam (222/228 .570/.565 110 LSA) and I need to pick up pushrods, studs, roller rockers, timing chain, lifters and other supporting parts(am I missing anything??).

The heads/intake should arrive Monday(28th)

At this point I'm targeting lunati parts, but any ideas suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks

I have a Vigilante, I did get a defective one for my original that had so much chatter and caused so much shuddering that it nearly shook the car apart at lockup. PI would not even discuss it with me after I sent back the defective one. The second has been pretty good.

I called PI several times, and sent 3 or 4 emails to the person I was corresponding with, and got no response to anything.

94 views...3 replies(thank you Vader86)..very, very disappointing for a REAL technical discussion.

Throughout the process of thinking about it, to doing it I've asked questions about the build/Lloyd Elliott and the response is disappointing.

I guess if I want to jump into a circle jerk about waterwetter, 2 pages of battery tender question(its a 6y.o. battery, buy a new one), ambient air temp around the air filter and ram air effects on HP or about trolls on the board....this is the go to place.

To those who have replied and helped out...thank you!

This is not "a goodbye cruel board" post, but a statement of disappointment

What is it youre even asking or not getting certain responses you were hoping for?

May want to consider putting a deeper gear in yours at some point down the road

Just a discussion about valvetrain/upgrade mods. People have done these upgrades and this is not the 1st time I've tried to start a discussion that would help me and others. I am spend alot of money on this and hoping to get some input.

The ram air/air filter thread (started by a guy who hated all things California, weird) had technical specs, pictures of shrouds and where the air gets though, etc....TMI if you ask me.

I know I should go bigger than 3.07, but (technically) its my wife's car, so driveability is important and we do some hi-way driving/cruising

Look at Jesel Sportsman shaft rockers and maybe the AFR hydra rev kit for the top end. As far as timing chains you are limited if staying with stock water pump, the LT4 Extreme Duty or similar then.

Run a long stud from ARP. Standard length will not yield enough thread engagement for the poly lock on the rocker arm. You can snap the top of the stud off. Ask me how I know. I run a 280XFI with lift numbers similar to yours.

Since you are buying new studs I would go with 7/16 and also rockers to match.

As far as pushrods go I would not purchase any until you have the cam installed with your new heads. You will have to get a pushrod length Checker and pattern the pushrod length to give you the ideal rocker arm to valve stem geometry.

Valve train recommendation:
Comp Cams 7/16 roller rockers
ARP 7/16 rocker studs
Trickflow chromoly push rods
Trickflow guide plates

How about injectors? New 30lbs trickflows or rebuilt ones from FIC?

Here is another....with the upgraded valvetrain do I have to get taller valve covers or will the stock ones work?

The 96 covers were made to clear the LT4 M6 1.6RR....Think all 96 LT1's got these as well.

Short story, you should be fine.

I'm not sure on the LT1 cars but on the L98 cars if you want to reuse the valve covers you have to dremel out the tabs inside for clearance.

I would talk to your tuner about injector sizing before I pull the trigger on an injector.

Lloyd had recommended that size injectors (trickflow), but I am going to connect with PCM4less or Moe Bailey(recommended by Lloyd)

Has anyone used Moe Bailey?

With the injectors new or rebuilt by FIC?

Are you saying they didn't want to tell you the diagnosis or they refused to warranty it?

What does the guy you are getting the cam from think? I ran with the D36 and whatever lame gear they had but once everything was sorted out, I had it changed to a 3.54 D44 because that was what they recommended with the cam/heads/intake combination.

Rebuilt ones from FIC depending on what the tuner says. He needs to adjust the injector constant or you will have fueling issues. So if he goes with 30 or in my case 42, I would get a rebuilt set from FIC. I got bit badly once with TFS so I'd pass on their stuff. Besides, rebuilt is cheaper and hasn't shown to be a problem yet.
