Today me and my dad removed a valve cover(driver side) and plan on removing the other one 2morrow morning. It was hard to remove w/ stuff in the way. The other side seems to have a couple of objects in the way but no biggy. Any Advice on the putting on the valve cover gaskets? :flag
You are going to get pissed when you undo the AC bracket and it still doesn't budge....there is one more bolt under the compressor. (don't disconnect the compressor, just move it out of the way.)While you are at it...it would be a good idea to change your temp sensor while you have eveything unbolted. The sensor can be had at any autoparts store. And don't forget the pigtail for it, its been changed. And one other thing, don't forget dads 6 pack.
Its full of Freon at about 45-65 dolllars a pound...and illigal to vent to the outside...needs to be recovered...so just loosen it and move it out of the way.
Carefully scrape all traces of old gasket material from the covers and the heads; then wipe with carb cleaner to remove all oil. You can use light sand paper or Scotch Brite to get the residue off.
Use new FelPro Perma Seal gaskets dry and torque the bolts down evenly in several stages.
On my 86 i didnt have to move the a/c unit at all. All i had to do is unbolt the egr pipe from the manafold and rotate it out of the way. I used the felpros and they have a spacer around the holes so you cant over tighten them.
ya i only got to do driver side 2day....it got hot today...when my dad was pluggin in the spark plug wires, he noticed one was burnt. so we replaced the wires on the driver side...passenger side manana. :yesnod:
