Purchased an '86 Coupe a couple of weeks ago. It has the Dealer installed option of the Borla exhaust system. This thing is LOUD. Probably do to it being Borla and old. Looking for advice on what muffles to get. I don't want stock quiet but don't want Borla loud. Something that won't hurt performance too much. Suggestions? I'm also going to add the rear "Y" pipe with crossover tube to knock down some of the resonance. Thanks
walker quiet flow SS. don't let the "quiet" thing fool you - these things sound great. louder than stock, but not as loud as most premium aftermarket cat back systems. I have them on my 85 - just loud enough without drawing too much attention. IMO, near perfect sound for the street. you won't need the rear y-pipe w/ crossover, to knock down the resonance or drone, since most of it is caused by your borla mufflers. performance, most performance loss is caused by the main cat and pre-cats. while you're at it, I'd dump the pre-cats, and go with a new high flow main cat. if budget is not and issue, a new front to rear walker system will set you back about $600 (from summit racing).

Dealer Installed Option? I didn't know that was an option. Also why would a dealer install that when there are way cheaper options? They do say that the LT1 exhaust is cheap (take off) and is quieter. I'm going to go with Corsa 14115 as soon as a used one comes along for the right price. Cheapest unit they have

I have a copy of the Window/Build Sticker and it shows the Borla Exhaust System as an add on for $1455!
Another option for a decent system that is not overly loud or expensive.
I have been using Allen's Stainless Exhaust brand "Chambered" Exhaust systems on two of my Corvettes. The C4 has a "Cat Back" system that sounds awesome and is still there after close to twenty years on this particular vehicle.
I did not buy the "Stainless Steel" system just the plain old "Aluminized Steel" pipes that are conventionally used on exhaust systems. I did install an aftermarket "Hi-Flow" Catalytic converter while I had it apart. I still have the original "Y" pipes with pre-cats on my car. After many miles and all these years the chambered exhaust systems sound and look great and have not started rotting out.
It was not hard to install the Cat back system. I was overly worried about the dreaded Drone from several aftermarket systems I have heard. I have had no issues with drone on this car but it is a coupe if that makes any difference.
Behind the car it sounds really nice (if you like Engine sounds (I do)) and it makes the car sound slightly modified from the output of the pipes. You can also save several pounds of unwanted weight by not having those big clunky mufflers back there.
Take a moment and consider it, you will be happy you did.
I hope you find the sound you are looking for at a great price!
Would you mind posting a picture of the sticker? I'm super curious on how it is displayed. Thanks!
I'm curious too. I didn't know that was an option. I know that you can get a Callaway Corvette but not one with a Borla exhaust from the factory. Learn something everyday

What about it? That it is dealership installation and not a GM option?
In no way should this be considered authentic or original documentation for any vehicle.
Top right, "Build sticker created by Davies Corvette Parts & Accessories"
Obviously one of those create your own window sticker websites which allows you to add any aftermarket goodies to the actual factory options. There isn't even a Chevrolet logo on it!
