I have flowmasters with headers, flowmaster collectors & w/hollowed cat on my 383 stroker and personally I do not like the sound. Flowmasters are great on Fords but I do not care for them on SBCs. I went with the Magnaflows on my ZR1 and I get compliments galore about the sound. I have cats and kept the resonator and she sounds perfect to me, especially when the secondaries kick in.

I believe you! Comparing sound clips on youtube, the Flowmaster, no matter which one, is a little raspy compared to the Magnaflow.
I think the "purist" pushed this a bit far, whether the window sticker and the "word" he used was wrong...
Remember they aren't making C4s anymore and they are getting totaled daily(and owners are dying ), so the numbers and enthusiast are dwindling. I would think we would be more welcoming to a new member. What is a stupid question to the more "advanced" vette owners, might be a legit question for a newbie
Oh hell, now you are making me want to get a C4 Corvette before they all get crushed! Seriously, there may come a day when you can get the body and frame of the car scanned by a computer and have it rebuilt in almost pure factory set-up. Either that, or someone willing to start their own small auto company specializing in reproducing such cars. However, will it be profitable or insanely expensive to purchase such cars?
I like the Mid America eliminators. Quiet when you want it to be and pretty good when you get on it. They're a little throaty for a corvette though. More of an old school small block sound even though it's advertised to sound more like the ls series if I am remembering correctly.

That day is today. If you have the money, you can commission it done. I'll bet Bill Gates could if he desired and the dash will look the same but will be much better with today's electronics. It's all a question of how much money you got.
Depends on how much interest there is. More interest, less money per unit (up to a point). Problem is, many people will say they are interested but when the product comes out, most will look at their shoes and mumble some sort of excuse why "not now". An article was written about people wanting to restart Midwest Express the way it was. An airline exec, IIRC, said that survey after survey, the customer says they are willing to pay more for the old ME. However, as he says "they lie" and will buy another airline flight that is cheaper. Unless you have a bunch of people who are willing to pay up front or a huge percentage up front, would YOU start an enterprise like that? I wouldn't.

Actually they are the oem stainless shorties off a l98 or a 305 california with air pump lines removed and welded. Even with stock manifolds it was tiny but not as loud.
Purchased an '86 Coupe a couple of weeks ago. It has the Dealer installed option of the Borla exhaust system. This thing is LOUD. Probably do to it being Borla and old. Looking for advice on what muffles to get. I don't want stock quiet but don't want Borla loud. Something that won't hurt performance too much. Suggestions? I'm also going to add the rear "Y" pipe with crossover tube to knock down some of the resonance. Thanks
I went thru the Loud options and resonance. What I ended up doing was installing DYNOMAX VT mufflers. They have a built in valve that works off of exhaust pressure. They are quiet at low speed but when you stomp it they open up. I have 0 resonance in my system. I have headers then it goes to a center muffler that has a built in X pipe then it goes from there to the two DYNOMAX mufflers. A good muffler shop can build what you want for a lot cheaper than a lot of the aftermarket set ups.

Define "a lot cheaper"? Are we saying it is less money for the exact same thing or just less money? If you are going to compare what they can bend cheap aluminized tube, that is apples and oranges. OTOH, if you are saying that they will take say 304SS or 409SS and cut and weld like the aftermarket kits, that might be another thing. I have probably run into one such shop and they will build you anything you want BUT it will cost a lot since it is a "one off".

NewCenturion's request was for a system that wasn't as loud as the one he has. My response was addressing that. Mine was done with aluminized tube. If you want SS I'm sure a shop can get it thru the same vendor they get their other tube. And yes that would increase the price. My system was welded. I spent less than $500 for the whole thing. The shop I go to here in Knoxville does custom systems for street rods etc. in the area. I would think other areas would have similar shops, but maybe I'm wrong.

That is my point. To make a fair comparison and say it is much cheaper, we need to compare apples to apples. Corsa to say a custom 304 system. I have a feeling that once you pay the shop to cut and weld 304,it will be more expensive.
