Default Custom chip and timing question

If you have an aftermarket chip, should you leave the timing stock? I have a TPIS stage 3 chip and I notice my car runs better at 6 degs than it does at 8 or 9. It pings at anything abouve 6, is this normal? Thanks

Just play with it so that you get the best times, mine runs good on 8* with the stock chip.

that is because the timing curves in the PROM are added to the BASE timing of 6deg also listed in the PROM.
