Default torque arm question?

Is the T/A from a 1984 Dana 36 manual trans differ from a Dana 44 later year model. Length thickness strength etc.

I am doing a Tremec THO 600 conversion and it appears the D36 TA is just too weak where I would drill a new hole. I is narrower in that area. Would going to a D44 T/A be a better thought?

Where new holes are drilled the holes old to new overlap forming a fiqure 8. Should the old holes be welded shut and redrilled?

Hurst Driveline Conversions does not seem to comment on this. They do offer a bracket to mate T/A to the Tremec unit in the install kit.

Could the D36 T/A allow a plate to be welded to it to strenghten ?

The D36 C Beam is longer than a D44 C Beam.

That is the only difference.

I have converted many C4s to D44s with no problems.... Just cut off the excess length and re-drill the C Beam mounting holes for the Transmission in front. The rear end mounting pattern is the same and there is no reason to mess with the rear of the C Beam.

On the front where you re-drill for the D44, the new front hole ends up right between the 2 original D36 holes.... but then you cut the original front hole off. The rear hole ends up aft of the original D36 holes. It's plenty strong.... I've gone faster than anybody on this forum in a C4 Corvette and did it so on a cut and re-drilled C Beam.

Here is a pic of what it should look like before you cut the excess length off the front.

Now you having a TKO trans complicates things a smidge because I don't know where they have the C Beam adapter located. However if it's not overlapping or oblonging one of the original D36 holes, I think that you will be fine.

Didn't buy from Hurst due to poor pre-sale support.

The D44 question seems more of of a how-much-power are you plannimg and what's your budget. I ran a Cryo-hardened D36 for many years with 500+ torque stroker; then fnally broke it.
