90-93 Steering Columns
1. Will a six speed column fit an automatic car? Automatic cars have a park lockout cable but I think a six speed car would have the equivalent but use reverse instead of park.
2. Will a 94-96 column work in a 90-93? From what I can tell there may be a slight style difference but fitment looks the same.

I was removing the pivot pins to get to the rack assembly because the ignition switch actuator rod came out when I was fixing the park lockout system (cable was sticking).
The pivot pin removal tool broke off inside one of the hardened pivot pins so I drilled out tool and tried to chase the threads in the middle of the pivot pin. The tap broke off and it's as hard as a cobalt drill bit so I can't drill it out.
The only way I think I can get the pin out is to grind away the steering column housing, thus ruining it and possibly the knuckle. The price for these parts alone is over $200. There is also some wear/damage to some plastic parts and the air bag coil (yellow) is a little iffy. The steering wheel could stand some refreshing too.
I've found some complete six speed columns and 94-96 columns that are cheaper than the 90-93 columns so I figured I could save a lot of hassle by replacing the entire column and could part out the old column to help cover the costs.
If you had no tilt issues you get just another pin. If you had issues maybe you buy one of the over-sized in an effort to correct the tilt.
Do you have a FSM for the car?
See page 36 & 37 in this document for the spring that I mean. It sounds as if you could have used this when you started. There's no good reason for the damage you now have. All 'self inflicted'! I likely have all of the parts you need - I should have a correct column also.

Not saying that it could not happen to me...I have been lucky and not had my pivot pin remover tool break.
The tilt spring is under so much tension like previously mentioned...it MUST be removed.
I know I could get the pin out if I had to...and not buy a column.
