I have a 96 base. Ebay lists two AC Delco water pumps. One is 252-699 for $121.00 and 251-554 at $246.00. Does anyone know what the difference is and is the more expensive worth it? Thank You, Dan
Vin Code P (LT1): 251-544 regular 252-699 professional
Vin Code 5 (LT4): 251-544 regular 252-699 professional
ACDelco markets three lines of parts: "Advantage" (cheap), "Professional" (more expensive), and "OEM." The OEM parts are the ones with GM part numbers that they sell at the dealer.
ACDelco's suppliers vary. I have a set of OEM rotors here in an ACDelco box that are cast by Rassini and are identical to the ones that came on the car. I have seen product images of ACDelco "Professional" rotors for the same application which are clearly not the same part.
Do you or anyone else know what the difference is? Does anyone have an opinion on if it it worth the extra money? Thank You, Dan
IMO, either go with the cheap one if your motor is stock and older. If you have a fresh rebuild, I'd go for the more expensive one. That said, if I am going to pay that much for a Delco Professional, I'd just get the Edelbrock 8815 for $243 at Jegs.

I bought the more expensive one, but have not installed it yet
I think the LT1 is going to be the bastard child they don't support. I just checked and there are not that many people that sell it. Like I said, I'd probably just go with the OE one unless I had some desire to convert to an electric
Thank You for your response. Am I correct that the "Regular" 251-554 is what is called OEM in the quote. Dan
If you don't need it right away, put it in your wish list and keep an eye on it. I paid $192 a few months ago for what they have at $261
This 'strategy' works for certain parts. I bought a EBC brake set up, Warehouse deals had the front rotors for about $90 (awesome price..open box), but the rear rotors were like $250+...put them in the wish list, bam..rear rotors drop to $160. Same happened with the EBC red pads, more expensive than Hawk pads....wish list...bam, $15-$20 less than Hawk pads....
Hi
Most water pumps are the cheap pressed tin paddle without sides type, while they may appear to work in a standard engine they suffer with ability to pump enough at idle or cavitate at high rpm.
They don't work anywhere near as good as a cast curved vane impeller design which are few and far between, got a water pump with thicker diameter shaft and curved vane impeller.
Was having trouble with high coolant temperatures with a double radiator, now she runs nice and cool.
Don't have to worry about the temp gauge anymore
Good Day! I hope you're enjoying a pleasant day. Would you be so kind, what is the make and model of your water pump?
I installed the Summit Aluminum Water Pump (S-312635) in my 89.
Put it in a year ago...No problems....
Hi, I also have an 89 L98 and thinking about getting the Summit WP you mentioned.
How was the fit? Any mods necessary? Did you use the gaskets that came with the WP or go with any upgraded gaskets? (some say Fel-Pro Blues are better)
My car is bone stock and I'm just looking for a direct fit replacement.
Thank you!

No mods were necessary, pretty straight forward installation.. I used the gaskets that came with the pump, coated with thin coat of “the right stuff” gasket maker.
one thing I might add - CLEAN and DRY the mounting holes in the block, especially the one going into the engine's water jacket. if possible, run a thread chaser tap into the hole as part of the clean-up process. IMPORTANT - coat the bolt threads with proper sealant and torque to spec. this is one area where it pays to be ****.
