I just talked to Jim Barth tonight. Jim now has my 4-bolt main block, Scat stroker crank, forged Scat 6" rods, Keith Black pistons, bearings, 268XFI HR13 cam, timing chain set and a new flex plate in his shop for my engine. Shortly all this stuff will head into the machine shop.
I have at home an Edelbrock manifold base and a Superram intake, Melrose complete header system. Almost there...just need AFR heads and valve covers, roller rockers, injectors & fuel rails and a few other parts!
I ran a 383, 6" rod, dart pro1 200cc heads with a StupidRam (great intake just hated putting it together) with a 280xfi. After going to the HSR I wondered if the 280 was too much for the SR. Interested in how your 268 does.
When I ran a 383, I had a SuperRam. Great combination. You've got a great builder in Jim Barth. Jim just built a stroker motor for a good friend of mine and the guy has been grinning for a month. Jim does everything right. My 383 was good for low 11's.
A the 383 Super Ram engine makes a great drive it anywhere street car engine. With AFR 195 street heads and a smallish hyd roller it will have great throttle response and easily pass emissions. And will still get very good gas mileage. It will have alot of torque everywhere, but still make decent top end HP.
Terry, I really think you will like this when were done with it.

Did you slot the screws and use a small driver to turn them to as tight as you can get it then use the wrench? If you want, drill out the threads on the upper and helicore the lower so you can run the bolt into it. Just use blue locktite.

Well, I'm the friend that 383vett referred to. I've been grinning alright- until this past Sunday when I took the car out for my first full throttle tuning session. That's when I found out that I have a problem in 1st and 2nd gears. I found out that the 396 stroker Jim built is gonna be really mean to my back tires. It hits so hard that it blows the tires away in both gears- and these are pretty sticky autocross tires on my avatar car. So I went from grinning to laughing as my wife practically kissed the ground when she got out of the car.
Went, Jim is meticulous, very experienced, and he's a great guy. He'll do a great job for you.
x2 youre in the right hands. When you get bored, there are gains to be had on that superram, bigger than youd think. Will be super strong just the way it is though.

This is probably the best review I guy could give.
Its true. His stuff doesnt come apart, hes fair etc
Much as I love building my own if I had the $ I wouldnt hesitate to have Jim do one. Finding a machinist that is 1)competent 2) does what they say they are going to do 3)honest is impossible to find.
The 1 man thing is the only way to go. Mine retired & know the biggest names out this way outsource to the Kmart of machine shops behind your back.
Always wanted a giant cube sbc or better yet a ***** out SB2.2 **** off the LSx crowd
One member we lost recently had a 440ci SB engine with a simple hydraulic roller that made well into the 700+hp range and was driveable.
Does anyone have a suggestion for an ignition distributor, a favorite make? I will not be harvesting parts from my original engine tooo much as I want to sell it as a running engine if possible. I'd prefer not to bust the bank here but not cheap stuff either.
This will be for the 383 Jim is putting together for me.
Will also need a fuel injector rail set.

I ran that cam in my last 383 and have those heads on the current 383 and love them. The cam is OK, but opted for a bigger cam on new motor. I run a 700R4 with a 9.5" 3200 YANK TC and going to a 9.5" 3600. Comes out of the bottom like gang busters now, but I want to drop my 60' another tenth. Your motor should have some good low end torq which you will like. My current CR is 10.7 Been thinking about building a SHP 421 motor next.

Not sure how I duplicated the other thread. Maybe it happened before multiple cups of morning coffee was consumed or late before crawling into the sack for some shut eye...
