So EGR Valve is frozen. Need a new one -- no problem there. But to get to this thing it seemed like I had to take half of the intake system apart so I figured I might as well clean it up. Throttle body very dirty behind -- easy to clean.
Are the intake runners something that should be cleaned out as well? There is carbon in there, but I don't want to sit and clean them if it really doesn't make a difference.
Also, the Haynes manual suggests to replace most of the gaskets which makes sense. Since this thing is already apart and I would prefer not to take it apart again at some future point and have to replace the gaskets again.
Because the hard starting issue I have might be caused by leaking injectors or the EGR or some combination of both, I figured I may as well do something with them now.
Is there a method to test them while I am right there anyway? Do the leaks have to do with the o-rings on the injectors or inside the internal mechanism?
Sorry for tons of q's just a lot going on since it is apart right now.
There are injector cleaning vids on you tube, an connector from the scrape yard is handy. Some epoxy n injector cleaner.
the egr system on some cars can get very complex, egrs can be cleaned.
always change gaskets , hose n seals whenever you disassemble parts.
I believe those style injectors leak from the inside and also do not spray correctly. I think you're going to want to dump those injectors and get rid of them and get new ones. Yes they can probably be tested but why bother since the PR on them over the years is so bad.
Sounds like you're on the right track in the work you are prepared to do. I have seen some of those EGRs installations, they sure make you work.
I would definitely replace injectors while its apart. As you've seen and stated, taking these intakes apart and putting them back together is a chore.
Replace all of your vacuum lines since the originals get very brittle and crack.
As stated your egr valve can be cleaned but you need to be careful about what you use so as not to damage the diaphragm. Mostly they tend to cake up around the pintle.
The plenum can get a lot of crap in it. When I had mine apart I soaked it in a bucket of straight simple green. Worked pretty well.
Do yourself a favor and use a little gasket tack adhesive on the plenum and runner gaskets to keep them in place during re-assembly.
Might as well replace the thermostat as well. Cheap and easy access now.
Hmm thats all I can think of right now.

What injectors do you recommend? There are sets that say they are compatible, but reviewers have indicated they are too strong. Thanks
