hey y’all, I’m new here. I have come across a 1992 automatic. Mileage unknown. Many things of the car are Unknow. I traded some work for this car that was inherited by the grandchildren. I had it towed to my house because I didn’t have any keys for it. I contacted the dealer and had them cut me a new key from the vin/ keycode. It didn’t work. Since then I’ve changed out the ignition cylinder with one I’ve picked up from advance auto and replaced the battery. Now I can turn the key and I get power to the windows, doors, light, ect. However the digital dash displays nothing and the car will not start. I’ve checked all the fuses, I also noticed that I do not hear the fuel pump run when I first turn the key. What would be the next place to start. One last thing is this car had a viper security system on it and I didn’t have the remote. I cut, removed and splice all the wire back to what I believe is factory.
Thanks
The CCM controls the dash LED display and also reads the key pellet for VATS. Without the CCM up and running the car will never turn over. It also sends the signal to the ECM to turn on the injectors. There are other functions but those are the critical ones at this time.
The ECM closes the fuel pump relay for the 2 second prime. However there could be a list of items as to why the pump does not run. Could be pump, wiring, relay, bad connector or just something disconnected.
You really need a FSM for a project like this. Look for anything out of place or disconnected like the ECM connectors, broken wires. Could be bad grounds for some of the problems. Who knows what the original problems and where other went and did. Most people would not be messing with the CCM because it is so well buried and hard to get to.
I could go on for a while but my last comment is to look at all the Maxi fuses in both fuse holders under the hood and make sure they look good. If it was me I would also check for voltage on the fuses that are inside of the car to see if they even have power on and thru them
