oil filter
If the oil filter traps the crap why not just leave the Mobil1 oil in pan and just renew the filter.. If you are driving under 1000 miles a year

You'd make an oily mess just to change your filter, might as well change the oil too. Look for that sale/promotion at Walmart, or at least buy your Mobile 1 oil there and get your filters on Ebay for a good deal. For you, it's just once a year.

During mostly short trip driving oil gets far more contaminated than driving with the engine fully warmed up.
The (relatively) low cost of oil for an annual change is cheap "insurance" for your engine, IMO.

Theoretically you could just change the filter.
I've done some reading on this. Not a lot.
But over time the additive packages in oil break down. You'll be left with the base oils
Oil changes ensure fresh additives and smooth operation

I agree with just "Change the oil every year" even if you don't put ANY miles on it.
The best insurance of all is to keep fresh oil in your motor.
The manufacturers are telling you that you only need an oil change every 10-15k miles, but oil manufacturers still don't want it to sit for a year, running or not without at least One oil change! I will never allow any car to go 10,000 miles on the oil. Maybe I am getting old...
I spent too much money building my C3 Engine so I go out and run the electric drill connected to the oil pump just to get some circulation in my baby every couple months while she is in slumber. It is not hard to do and the oil pumps through out the engine and lubricates all the dry parts. When starting my Corvette for the first time in a while I remove all eight plugs and shoot an ounce or 2 of fresh motor oil into each cylinder before hand cranking it over a couple turns. It takes all of a few minutes and the engine never really experiences a "Dry Start". I then crank the car without the plugs and finally I re-install everything and start the engine proper.
Just don't forget to flush your brake fluid, Coolant and Power Steering fluid every five years, Corvettes don't need as many repairs on the vital systems if you follow this regular fluid change schedule.
Good Luck and "change that oil", Your car will love you for it.... and perform better and maybe even last longer!

Replacing the oil on a regular basis is preferred.
YMMV

What i ran into in 2001 was a mobile oil change that only involved the filter. The Motor was spot less and still ran (350) It was still clean and running at 250,000 miles That product was mobil 1 (test was completed by a Mobil 1 employe)

How did you determine "clean"? Visual? Meaningless. My Powerstroke diesel oil looks black as soot after 5 miles so by that logic, I should be changing oil every mile. Did he give you a test sheet showing that the oil was still good? What was it based on? A UOA or eyeball? If this guy will warranty my motors, I will be glad to never change oil and top off only.

If you have a secondary filter setup with super fine micron rating, you can go a very long time before changing the oil.
But even with that setup... eventually you have to change the oil.

If he is stupid enough to believe the Mobile reps and not get a written contract, someone needs to earn a living rebuilding engines. The government can get tax money and everyone is happy.
