It's been a while, but if i remember correctly i bought the center support from a later lt1 c4 vette.
It bolted right up to my 700r4
Has springs with metal tabs on the end to bolt to the exhaust.
Then i went ome step further and bought the rear support from a C5 that bolts to the rear diff.
Surprisingly it bolted right up with no mods.
I forget, how was your plug clearance. You run angle plugs right, would it be better straight plug or vice versa?

Ok, is this the lt1 exhaust hanger you meant? https://www.ebay.com/i/192889282408?...5607c2fffecd81
If so where exactly does it bolt on and do you have pictures of it on yours so I can see if it would work with the dual pipes I have? Thanks

If you’re talking about mine, the plugs would be kind of hard to get to, but I never tried messing with them with the header on because I put them in while it was still loose. I bet there’s a way you could get to them though, if not I’d just have to loosen the header a bit to put them in. The spark plug wires do stay away from the headers though as long as you have the angled boot ones like I do.
Thats a hack job if I ever seen one. Thats not acceptable in my opinion. Someone should have said something before ruining the header like that.
They told me at first that they aren’t going to work but then I asked them if there’s any way they can get them to by cutting the pipes if they need to and re bend them the right way. I didn’t think they would have just left it the way it was with it being right against the floor melting it. When I said that I meant if they could cut them and get them bent to fit good, not just fit enough to go in but end up melting the car and rattling.
Here you go. This is how you get to the spark plugs with the hedman headers. Or do like I did and cut a 5/8 socket and weld a nut to it. Not that hard. I just did headers as well and they were Hedmans, I was very happy with the fitment. I've been down that eBay road too many times and made the header mistake too, although that wasn't nearly as bad as your experience.

It isn't the eBay route. It is the "Cheap" route where you pay less today and more tomorrow. I bought a lot of stuff over the years on eBay but as long as you are careful that you don't get too good a deal, life is good. eBay allows you to buy junk and good stuff. You just need to not buy cheap stuff and expect it to be good as well. Obviously, proper precautions exist even on eBay but there it is.

Fair enough, but there's a lot better places to find quality than eBay. The only way I buy that stuff is if I have researched and found the exact product I want and then find it on eBay. You cant deny there's way more junk than quality on there though.

Exactly. eBay allows you to sell junk more easily and because there are suckers every day that want to get a $100 for $20, they go there. Like you, I research the product and DO NOT BUY any substitutions. I want a Mercedes part and not some off brand part nor do I accept substitutions with some unknown part. I agree that item for item, it is often cheaper to buy from a reputable vendor on eBay IF YOU DO YOUR RESEARCH and buy the exact product. Go for a cheap deal and more often than not, you end up paying more in the long run. OTOH, it is perfect if you want to sell the car and just want a cheap part to stick in place.

i totally missed this, sorry!
yes, that's the center support i have, it was a perfect match for the bolts on the tail shaft on my 700r4.
best picture i have on my phone, however the hanger is on the first set of band clamps right before the first x-pipe

thats ok, thanks anyway for replying now. I took it to the exhaust shop for them to weld the right length extensions and hook it up to the headers and I asked them to put a hanger on there. They took a regular exhaust hanger and welded it to the stock hanger at the transmission mount so that will hold it up fine.
How is spark plug and starter access with the Melrose or Hookers? I used to like TPIS but their customer service is lacking and depending on who you talk to they can be a pain with an attitude....

I'd be curious too for if I had to replace my headers that are showing signs of age. I think that on the F-body, IIRC, they were a PITA either for the spark plug access or the starter or install. Been a while so not totally sure. I believe that install then was difficult. As to TPIS customer service, I think they have gone the way of customer service in general so no biggie. Buy off the web if I can.
For the Melrose,
first my heads are edlebrock, so might be different.
but i have 3 gaskets on heach side to give me enough space to not toast the spark plug boots.
then i still have the MSD "race" boots due to them being smaller and having clearance issues.
all is well from there, except for the #3 (or was that cylinder 5..) spark plug change.
i have to loosen the header on the driver side in order to change the plug...
as for starter, i understand it's better if you buy a later starter with the smaller motor, but with my old 84 style honkin big starter, its a puzzle.
pretty much, starter out to get the header in, then with the header loose, starter goes in.
lots of fun!
headers are a pita, but they look cool and sound amazing.
also the exhaust ports on my edlebrock heads are huge, reusing the original manifolds would have created a nice flat wall at the exhaust.
the headers were the only option to make it work for me
Also i went Melrose mostly due to the fact that the entire exhaust system came with the package.
i had a muffler shop expand my factory mufflers from 2 1/4 to 2 1/2in
they said it would split, but it worked fine.
that allowed me to drive the car around until i figured out what i wanted to do.

you had said that with angle plug heads plug changes would be really easy right?
