Default Need help with Flowmaster Exhaust!

I have a 1994 coupe LT1 and I want to replace the stock mufflers with a pair of Flowmaster Super 40's. I am not ready to upgrade the entire exhaust system, so for now I have decided on just replacing the stock mufflers with something that will give me more volume.

The pipes going into the stock mufflers are 3.00" that narrow down to approximately 2.75" into the muffler. I can purchase a Flowmaster Super 40 with 3.00" in/out or 2.50" in/out.

Has anyone replaced just muffler with a Flowmaster and if so, what size in/out did you go with? Did you have to install a curved pipe to be able to center the new muffler?

Any input/help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Iirc my car had flowmasters on it. I believe they just cut the exhaust at the stocker and then weld filled the gap on the flowmaster... early cars had 2.25 iirc so it went into a 2.5 flowmaster. I think mine was a 50 series though. It was roughly the same as the stock unit size wise. Also, flowmaster sells a drop in muffler for C4s... I believe that uses the 50 series case though.

PLEASE DON'T.. The p.o. did that exact thing on my 96. WORST exhaust ever. TERRIBLE drone. FORGET having a conversation with your passenger. Flowmaster 40's are TERRIBLE mufflers and should only be used it there isn't room for anything else. I'm half deaf as it is and I couldn't stand them.

How coincidental.....I've had my 94 Polo Green 6 Spd on jacks because I've been performing work and was at the rear looking at the left rear muffler (same angle of your picture) and was thinking the exact same this. So logged on this forum to see if I could find out if anyone has ever done this and I run across your thread. Anyway, found this on YouTube

There are many others you can do comparisons with but the consensus seems to be they'll be a lot of drone. One thing you (or I might) consider is to have a muffler shop weld flanges on the stock pipes and mufflers as well as whatever you/I decide to replace them with, we can always go under there and swap them out if the new ones turn out to be too drony...id that a word? lol
