Just talked to 5 muffler shops and they say that the reason the things will blow out is because people dont retighten them down after the heat cycle. Kind of like a head gasket. That and cheap headers with thin flanges..

Driver side is done. The pass side is in but its just hanging. We are going to finish it Saturday. The weather has gone to crap so no hurry. Here is a view of the driver side.

Do NOT lube the bolts. Let the car run, cool down, and re-torque.
Unless you really want to have fun putting helicoils in, I'd put some anti-seize on them.

I check the torque on mine every few months to make sure they are tight. Have not had any issues yet.

George, I not sure why you said that ? I always use anti-seize on ALL bolts that go into the alum heads.

I'm agreeing with Vic. My header bolts are anti-seized. Never had a problem.

Yeah, the bung for your heated O2 sensor. :nonod: If you're serious about getting the motor tuned out right, the collector, and heated is the only reliable way to give the ECM a feel for what the motor's doing.

I used the 7th cylinder location on my 383 and the system couldn't get proper fuel trim, nor would it go open loop at WOT.

I always thought the throttle position sensor voltage drove the ECM into open loop mode. Am I wrong?

Several factors come into play. If the ECM isn't seeing what it likes from the O2 sensor, it won't go open loop. I've seen several (more than 2, less than 6) people who've had the problem, and it was solved by going to a heated O2 sensor that could see the whole bank of pistons.
