I an in the process of trying to repair the INFL REST light on my 1990 coupe. I have read several threads about the process of repairing the problem and reading codes from the ALDL and resetting the codes. Has anyone purchased a scanner for their 1990 and actually reset codes?
As far as I know there isn't an after market code reader that will deal with INFL Rest codes. I have a Snap-On scanner 2500 that was latest thing in 1990 but it won't read them Perhaps an actual GM shop code reader may work but not sure where you would get one.
So... using the ALDL paper clip method from Terminal A to K is the easiest and fastest way to get the code to point you in the direction of the fault. If I recall Code 16 is the left sensor and Code 26 is the right sensor.
Corrosion can also occur where the sensors plug into the wiring going to the Derm ..the connector on the right side is located behind the carpet on the right footwell. I had persistent code 26..... once I cleaned the plug at this location and I reset the system the light went off.
Resetting the light requires strict attention to the timing of grounding and ungrounding.
