My OD switch on my 87 failed and GM wants $160 for a replacement. But.....cheap me, I found the exact replacement from Mouser Electronics (an electronic parts house big on mail order). The switch is their part number
506-MPE106F and costs $10.02 plus $4.80 to get it to my house. You have to push the split pin out of the old switch carrier and cut and solder the wires and plug onto the new switch. Mouser's phone number is 800-346-1514 and their web address is: http://www.mouser.com
my 85 has the switch in the shifter, would you know if they have this one, or how I would explain what I need to an electrojnics house?? thank you for your help.
Good to know, this is the 2nd low-cost supplier of these switches I know of now. The other place (who's name escapes me right now) is the identical switch to the ones in the car. You just have to transfer the wiring to it.
I feel certain that the 85 OD switch in the 4 + 3 is identical to my 87, but you can see a picture of it at http://www.alcoswitch.com in their pushbutton section. The Alco part is their MPE106F.
