Cool project. I have noticed a lot of aftermarket exhaust (high end) are using the same concept to address drone. Personally I like the look of the Corsa tips over stock and they address drone. We all have out motivations and preferences, cool use of knowledge to achieve a goal.

No, I do not know who he is yet but he did respond to me on you tube and added quite a bit more information.

In regards to Corsa, this is not for someone willing to spend $1500 on an exhaust system. If this is you this is not a thread you will be interested in.

Other than Corsa I do not know of one manufacturer who uses this method to address drone, so if you know of one please pass it on.

Who is the manufacture in the photo? What is the cost..? this modification if DIY would be under $100.. Im going to get a quote to have it done as I cannot do it anymore after my injury.

It's not for a Corvette. I have just seen these canisters utilized in other systems. Mainly imports. This particular one is for a 350Z.

As for the cost. I guess it depends on how you slice it.
If you don't have a MIG or TIG welder at home, a lift, and a garage with space... that stuff can get expensive. Plus you must be willing to cut the spare tire tub out. That will not be done by a shop for $100 either.

I said it was a cool use of knowledge and we all have our our preferences and I can acknowledge that. I think you are possibly looking at this with too Rosey of glasses and not realizing how much work actually went into this and it has also compromised safety in a rear-end collision. I honestly don't think you are pulling this off for $100. Even if you have all the resources and are going to DIY, you are going to hurt the value of you car more than $100.

Cut the tub out? Mine is out, I cut nothing. No value is "hurt".What are you referring to?

its 2 bent 2 ft long pipes and 2 3.5" straight pipes, a small piece of insulation and some muffler wrap. where is this cost you are referring to?

Please explain what needs to be cut.. cannot for the life of me figure it out and I just crawled from under my car.. its wide open and was like 3 bolts. thanks

isleading information to support your corsa purchase.

Is the tub in the C4 just laid in there?

"Is the tub in the C4 just laid in there?

So I guess your assertion that the tub needs to be cut out was a guess?

LOL... never dropped the spare on my C4. I guess not cut out is needed. A guess... yup I look at it, saw a tub missing and his heat shielding up there. Yes, been in the L98/LT1 game for as long as I could hold a tool, but with F cars. Finally decided to get a Vette 2 years ago

Dude you are seriously offended that I am not head over heals about this.

As I said, we all have our own preference and opinions on looks. I need to justify nothing and acknowledged the cool factor and work done. The Corsa was on my car when I bought it, and I am really happy it was.

Still not doing this for $100. If you have the garage and tools to do it, you have already invested over $100 is my point. Oh, and time. I guess your time is free. Mine is not and I always consider that when I consider a project. With a job, 2 kids, wife, house, coaching... yea time is a big factor.

Im only concerned with real oppositional points. Just dont like people who spread misinformation to support a theory. Its like 3 bolts and drops out.

Now, perhaps you could substantiate the cost. After calculating all materials and knowing what good heat insulation material costs.. id raise my original assertion to $200 or less. Heat wrap is not cheap either. the pipes are nothing.

if you don't think its a good idea then make a credible point that is helpful to the community, dude.

Here's two you could have made:

1. Can you drop the exhaust and remove while on jack stands?
2. That thing is pretty damn close to the fuel tank, id be concerned about heat.

Those are credible opposition points..

Just simply stating that the idea sucks isnt helpful contribution unless you can substantiate with facts or at least reasonable questions like the above.

I for one would rather take $1400 and do my differential rather than hand it to corsa and THEN (in my case) pay to have it installed.

In all seriousness, if you really see a problem here then that is why I started the thread.

All these photos of tuned port configurations is great, but I can find NOTHING other than corsa for the c4 lt1. Corvette central seems to make something for the pre lt1s.. though when I look at the design I dont see it being very effective, its too short, too small.

Im not sure why he didnt run them straight to the back rather than bend them up.. yeah they would be visible from behind but Id paint yellow smiley faces on the end this would drastically reduce heat up against the fuel tank.. which I read some where is not good idea. I think its because he is hell bent on stock appearance, which I can relate to actually.

Don't forget safety... car was crash tested with a wheel/tire back there.

Oh please do show me where I posted that! I said nothing of the such.

You did absolutely no such thing. You straight up posted a video.

What I actually said is...

There is nothing about that that says Sucks... I see "Cool" twice Then noted I have seen this used on aftermarket systems... does that means sucks to you?

I took issue with you saying $100 and its done and provided points that is not the case. I actually see zero issue with this if it's the route the owner wants to go. Even if the tire sets in a tub that had to be removed.

The early rear y pipe that corvette central sells with the crossover tube actually does mostly eliminate the drone. This is pretty cool either way. Just a bit of tuning required to get it exactly right. It will vary car to car.

Interesting on the y pipe.. I'll look into that.. I was referring to their no drone muffler for the l98. it has a very short tune chamber inside the muffler.

As far as I can tell it really doesnt vary from car to car.. if you meant by that vette to vette.all V8s are going to be the same.. The equation has no reference to horsepower or displacement or anything like that. Essentially all V8's will require 33".. the larger the chamber the more attenuation you get.

You can verify this with a frequency analyzer however which he posts a link to.. I installed on my phone but havent tested mine yet but I expect it to be 100hz as well. anyway, once you measure and confirm its just math.. no tuning is required. Its one of those go big or go home deals with the size of the chamber however. The larger the diameter the more volume it can absorb is the way I am reading it anyway.

barchetta, do you mean the larger the diameter of the resonators pipe the more attenuation?

Also, i think i read the the location doesnt matter, and that another member had installed the anti drone resonator where the cat was?

I was more referring to modded vehicles. Once you factor in headers and different length tubes it'll change. The frequency is exactly the same more or less but you'll also be introducing more so to speak... as far as the tube length yes. It'll resonate at the same frequency still. I was more referring to severity than it being different.

It has been a long time since I did anything regarding waves but I don't remember if volume effected tuning... I would think it would. A larger chamber should in theory need to be shorter to resonate at a certain frequency. That being said i may be thing of subwoofer boxes which is... somewhat different iirc. You're looking for the 180 of what is happening here.

I did have the no drone mufflers on my 84. they really should be called no sound mufflers. They were really quiet but didn't drone not one bit. Perfect for a sleeper though. They seemed to flow reasonably well.

Yeah that is what I was trying to say.. that is what Ive read and understood it as anyway. Im no expert, just have had time to research it.

Ive seen them installed right after the header so yes, Id agree.. as far as I can tell it can go anywhere.

I really dont like how close it is to the plastic fuel tank on his but its probably not a big deal.
