I just thought I'd share what I learned while adding power seat tracks to my '89 Vette. My car came from the factory with dual manual base leather seats. It now has dual power 6-way base leather seats. The adjustability that the power tracks allow makes for a much more comfortable ride as the front and back edges of the seats can be raised and lowered. I would suggest this upgrade to anyone who has manual tracks and wants a more comfortable ride. The power track assemblies come in two versions: '84-'87e and 87L-'96. Left and right are interchangeable. I think that only '87+ were available with both driver and passenger power tracks. Mine had neither. The difference between the two track assemblies is that the early ones had a spring and different plug from the late ones. The switch assemblies that mount in the console come with the wiring harness built in. There is an '84-'86 switch that plugs into the early tracks. There is only a left side on the early ones I think. There are supposedly left and right switches for '87 but they are hard to find and may be very similar to the '88-'89 switches. I went with the '88-'89 switches. The left side is still available from GM, the right is discontinued. I found the left and right switches new online at a Vette yard. The switches mount in the depression in the console on '84-'89. The lower console must be removed. The mounting areas for left and right are there, but the holes are not. You have to cut the holes in the plastic. on each side, you will need a round hole in the center with square holes on each side. I used a 5/8" drill bit to drill three holes on each side in the proper location which is obvious when you remove the console. I then filed the front and rear holes square with a triangle file. It's not that bad, plastic is easy to file. There are flat metal brackets that hole the switches in on each side. i made them because they are discontinued. They are flat aluminum with two holes-very simple. Once the switches are installed, it is all plugging in. There is a single harness pug in the console for power seats. The right side harness plugs into this power source. The left side harness plugs into the right side harness. Then you will have a plug that runs from each side. On each side, run this harness straight down and under the carpet. Cut a small slot under the center of the seat in the carpet. This is where the plug will come up. Now reassemble the console and install the power tracks and seats. Mount the tracks first, plug them in and mount the seats on the tracks. You now have dual power seats. I haven't upgraded to the sport option with adjustable lumbar and side bolsters, but it is a simple plug in job. Find the sports seats(you don't need the tracks, you already have them, they are the same), unplug the harness under the seat, and plug the sport seat harness in between. The sport seat harness has a piggyback that plugs in between the swith harness (from console) and the seat track harness. I hope this helps anyone who undertakes this rewarding upgrade. :)
Nice post Siveck, bet this gets saved a few times!! If you don't mind, I'll tag on a link showing the actual removal/installation of the seats and tracks.
Your detailed info on the retro fit will no doubt get more people into sport seats that wouldn't have done it otherwise!

Yup, it gets a favorite here too. I hadnt really thought about upgrading the passenger side to electric like the drivers side is...but why not? Thanks for the great info guys!
Nice post! The first thing I had to do when I bought my 88 was disassemble one of the seat switches - The contacts were covered in soda.
You mentioned that the tracks are the same up through the 96 model. are the seats also interchangeable?
As far as I know, the seats in all C4's are interchangeable. Only the different colors for different years would be an issue. The power plugs for sport seats must match up also.
