I am removing the 9th injector on my 86. If I cut the wires for the injector connector and the thermo time switch, can i just cap them in the harness, or will I need to connect them? Would that close a circuit back to the ecm?
The cold start injector is not tied to the ECM. You can unplug the injector and call it done. No cutting, no capping, no re-wiring required. That injector is tied directly to the cold start thermal switch and nothing else. You don't even have to unplug the thermal switch.

Thanks. Just wanting to remove everything I won't need, including thermal switch.
You're welcome. I sent you a PM about the thermal switch. If you are going to physically remove it I would be interested in taking it off of your hands and keeping as a spare for my '86.

Curious. Are you having any cold starting problems?
Interesting. It has been said to cause longer crank times unless you reprogram the ECM to squirt more fuel at starting to compensate for the loss of the 9th injector. Supposedly it is more evident in cold weather as opposed to warm or hot.

So what's the function of the injector then?
It did on mine. It was harder to start. I have a program for an 89 now. Fires up quickly.

I just deleted mine ,snipped the wires and taped the ends and tucked in side the harness.

I think there's a misunderstanding here. I have my cold start injector hooked up. I was simply letting the OP know how these things are hooked up, and that they are independent of the ECM. I'm very aware of the longer cold start times if you delete the injector, and that's why I'd never remove mine. I turn the key when cold and it hits immediately.

OK. Just curious since I have heard conflicting reports about this
