Why does my coolant level always drop below the sensor level? I fill the radiator to the top, drive for a little while and the coolant in the radiator is low again and the coolant in the recovery tank is fuller. Do I need to blead the system? How do I do that?
Thanks in advance for your help
I know I do not have a leak unless coolant is evaporating as fast as it leaks. I do not have puddles under the car or coolant in the oil. The coolant level seams to stay at the same level, just below the sensor. I have not tried the bleed screw.
I changed the coolant in my 89 vette and had the same problem. I found that the radiator cap was leaking through the top where the rivet goes through. I replaced the cap and the light stopped coming on. Here is how I found out... I pulled the overflow reservior off and held it up as high as I could get it... I wanted the tank to be the highest point in the system. It was here that the cap leaking showed itself, not only this, but I found that the overflow hose at the radiator was not tight enough. If you have any leaks on the overflow line, it will prevent the system from drawing coolant from the reservior when the engine cools.
If you keep losing coolant and don't see any puddles or obvious leaks check your oil and make sure it isn't getting in the engine thru a bad head gasket.
