I need an ECM for a 1984 crossfire with an automatic transmission. I have an ECM for a 1984 crossfire with a manual transmission. Can I modify a manual transmission ECM to work in an automatic transmission car? I've searched the forums and found mentioned an EPROM Chip swap to make this possible. Is this correct? Thanks for any help you can provide.

Coulda swore I saw a video on how to do it floating around but can't seem to find it. One thing is to make sure you pay attention to the orientation of the PROM. There's going to be a little half moon on the chip that identifies pin 1. Use a sharpie and mark the ECM on the side that coincides with it before you pull the PROM out. During installation match the "half moon" with your sharpie mark. If I find that video, I'll link it up.
Ahhhh...I was referring to this but he doesn't show how to...
Thank you for the responses. I don't know what codes were displayed when the testing was done because the car is in a different state. The EPROM chip in the original ECM may be good; they can do the swap if this is the case.

yeah the reason I ask is because the FSM has a lot of diagnostic test to do before you conclude that the ECM is stuffed. But it sounds like someone else is telling you it needs replacing so I guess you need to trust that they have done all the tests.
