Hey everyone I bought some LED headlights and they have fog lights built in , the lights work fine but no matter how you wire the fog lights they will be useless unless the headlights are . Obviously if you have have the park lights and fog lights on the headlight doors don't open so the only thing you'll accomplish is illuminating your engine compartment . Is there something I'm not understanding ?
Um...what? So let me get this straight...you bought a set of LED headlights that fit in H4 housings. And they include fog lights in the same H4 housing. And you're complaining because...you can't turn on the fog lights..unless the H4 housings are visible (namely, the headlight buckets are popped open)?
If that's an accurate understanding, I'm not sure what sort of magic answer you expect us to provide. Don't buy H4 housings with integrated fog lights. Your fog lights are supposed to be located in the bumper.

Um.... lets get something straight I wasn't complaining one damn bit . I bought a some LED headlights and unknown to me they have a fog light/ DRL system incorporated in them and not always be the smartest person in the room I thought maybe someone on this forum had encountered the same situation and had come up with some sort of MAGIC to make them a useful feature . I have found there some very smart people on this forum that have come up with some clever ways around some of the C4 short comings . As far as the headlights go they work great and are far superior to anything that has ever been on the car from day one and yes my fog lights will stay in the bumper .
Okay, cool, I'm glad we appear to be on the same page. Unfortunately then I must go with my original recommendation, which is to not use these particular headlights. There are plenty of H4 LED headlights on the market. I've got one set installed on my car, and I'm testing a second set on my dad's '94 in the next month or so. There are also expensive ones that have already been tested by countless members and proven to be high-quality. Yours is the first example I've heard of a set with integrated DRLs/Fogs, so it sounds like just bad luck. See if you can get them returned or exchanged for a set without such components, or can wire those components to simply not come on as they are useless.

Couldn't you could wire your fog light switch or a separate switch to your bucket motor relay?
If you plan on tackling custom wiring and also other diagnostic and maintenance tasks on your C4, it's highly recommended to get a Factory Service Manual. They can be had digitally from RockAuto for $20, or you can find two-book physical copies on eBay and elsewhere for $100+.
That said, here's the complete headlight bucket motor circuit in case you're feeling adventurous.
Thanks for the diagram . I do have a FSM but I don't think a pair of lights that I will never order again are worth hacking around on my wiring . My 96 is pretty much unmodified and I'll probably leave it that way . I have an 85 C4 that i would consider modifying the bucket motors if someone comes up with a plan . I can follow instructions but again I'm no innovator when comes electrical . I will probably order a pair of lights from amazon that so many here have posted about .The DRL feature in the lights I have would be nice as long as you don't have hide away headlights . In the ad for my lights they show a C4 with the buckets open and the DRL's only on., kind a deceiving .
On my '96 If you turn the headlights on and after the lights flip turn the switch back to the parking light position the lights will stay open. Give it a try 😉
I didn't know that but I'll give it a try . If that works then I'd have a reason to wire the DRL's . Thanks
It does work. As per the diagram above, the only time there power gets applied to the headlight motors is "Off" or "Headlight." So if you go from "Off" to "Parking," nothing happens; the buckets stay closed. If you go from "Headlights" to "Parking," nothing happens; the buckets stay open. This is also why if you will hear the headlight motors click once if you turn your parking lights on then turn them off again without turning the headlights on.

Wan see I told you I'm not the smartest person in the room (LOL) . I will probably switch my current lights into my 85 and then wire the DRL's in . I'm just too reluctant to mess with my 96 . Thanks for everyone's help and advice
