Default Tires, width etc

I know tires are a popular tpic and difficult for our C4 to find decent ones.
Well, I bit the bullet and just stopped procrastinating and compromised. I bought some Nitto NT05s for my 93.
I had BFG KD, dated 2006. Ouch. Shame on me.
So, Just for giggles I took a couple pics of the 315 and 275 BFG next to the Nitto is there respective size.
The Nittos are narrower tire, not by much, but enough to see it.
I double stacked them for effect.
When running the 50mm offsets and 17x11s in the rear, tires can rub, or not. My pics just show how much a difference in manufactures tires can be. I know the Nittos will be more forgiving in the clearance issue as mine is tight, due to lowering too.
First 2 pics are the 315s, second the 275s.

That is really quite a difference on the 315's.

These are unmounted 315 Nittos compared to mounted 315 KD's?

Yes. I thought of that. The mounted tires only had one thing done, they were completely out of air, took shraders out. Not sure it means anything.
But, when I put the ruler on top tomorrow when mounted, I will see the difference as I took a picture of the 315s and 275s BFGs with rulers on top.

those Nitto NT05's have always been on the narrow side. I have not done any measuring but from what I have seen the new 555G2 in 315 looks pretty wide.

I am happy just to have newer tires on my car. They are narrower, and I really dont like the industry not having standards. No excuses. Come up with a standard and stick to it. If its 300mm, where? Where are you getting the 300mm at. Not when mounted on a 10.5 inch rim. Not an 11. Make it a point on the tire that across the board of tire manufactures it is the same.. ie contact patch?
Not a 20 psi, but a standard psi like 32? 35? at 72 degrees F SAE ?
I dont want excuses, reasoning, costs etc, just a standard..
Point is, they are visually narrower than what I took off. Aesthetics are important to me.
Sorry for the rant, I digressed.

They do have a standard; it's the overall width of the tire.

It likely won't matter; air pressure sets the size of the contact patch, not the tire width.

Yep, sidewall to sidewall.
I was just ranting on the fact there are many different sized tires, their width, with same numerical sizes.
