I've got a 1990, L98 with the ZF6 trans in it. Though, the throw isn't bad, I was wondering if anyone is info on putting in a short throw shifter? (I'd have a shop do it.) But, I'm wondering about any long term damage particularly to the springs inside that gear box, and if any other modifications would be needed to accommodate one. The 1-4 really let's you feel how tight the tolerances of those springs are, as does the owners manual. I'm also wondering how that would effect shifting into reverse given the collar around the shifter. Any knowledge would be appreciated! (Yes, I know it isn't a "needed" mod, but I would enjoy it if it isn't bad for the car.
I have a 89. Went to a B&M Ripper years ago. Def. a shorter throw but honestly I hate it. It is so "notchy". It is not fluid going from one gear to another.
Short throw shifter gives you best chance at out-shifting the newer cars
My Hurst is definitely notchier on my 93 - but it has a weird way of ‘aligning itself’ to make it easier to go into the correct gear during WOT upshifts.
for example, its be harder to moneyshift (breakimg stuff), getting 1st by accident vs 3rd, at the top of 2nd.
somehow that lever ‘aligns itself’ when rowing thru gears.
im also equally confident i get 3rd (vs 1st !) during a 72 mph highway downshift from 6th (or 5th)
on the stock shifter, one time i accidently got 2nd (vs 4th) at top of 3rd at like 120 mph - no ill effects bc i put clutch back in right away. But could have easily been a disaster. I feel like that would have been much more difficult to happen on the hurst short throw shifter
this is on my 93.
the only downside with hurst short throw shifter, was I lost my reverse lockout tab
I will be going with a Hurst short throw shifter this summer and can't wait. The stock shifter I find to be very vague especially trying to find 5th and 6th. As for the lock out I won't miss it as mine has not worked for a while. Reverse is so far over and so far back I just can't see accidently hitting it when shifting to 6th.
You will have the reverse lockout removed, which I feel is in the top 3 reasons why I love the Core/Hurst shifter.
Was this a hard install? I read through the other link in this thread about he Hurst and it seems like it's pretty straight forward if you have some working knowledge of working on cars. Did you find anything particularly difficult?

Thank you

With everything you have done to your car, you shouldn’t have any issues. Although, the time to have done it, is when you had everything out months ago
Worried about missing 6th as you speed shift trying to race those C8’s?
the thing i did NOT like about the reverse lockout, was that it always seemed some mechanics had no clue how to get it into reverse - (during the rare instance i have a shop do work on it, ex. Alignments)
