Default Replacing LT1 rockers

Please excuse my naivete. I have a 95 conv 6spd, and I'm about to swap my 1.5 rockers for 1.6 rockers, LT4 springs, and hardware. I have saved the post that shows rotating the crank so valves are at TDC to avoid dropping valve during process. I've read about stuffing the cylinder with nylon rope to keep valve from dropping into cylinder, and I'm leaning towards this method.

My question is: Do I still need to rotate the crank to TDC, or can I leave the crank at 1 position, and just stuff rope down each cylinder before I remove the rocker and spring? Thanks for the help.

I would try a leakdown tester to use compressed air. But if you go with the rope method you'd probably have to put the rope in and turn the engine lightly until it stops so that the rope is pushing up on the valve paying close attention to which stroke that cylinder is on so that you don't interfere with normal valve movement.

Use compressed air and skip the rope,

Don't have compressor, that's why rope is appealling

It would be better to rotate crank 90 degrees at a time to make sure valve doesn't fall to far. I used fuel hose before. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. 2 cylinders will be at TDC at the same time. You can do them in pairs 1 / 6, 8 / 5, 4 /7, and 3 / 2. Adjusting there is how you want to do them. You could do 1, 8,4,&3 as you go then keep making 90 degree turns to the other 4. It takes 2 revolutions to adjust all 8. The other way is: there a diagram to install and adjust half at #1 TDC the rotate crank 360 degrees and install and adjust the rest. Afterwards you could rotate crank 2 revolutions to make sure you don't have a loose rocker before firing it up.

The diagram you reference, is it in the FSM?
