Because they are the best tire for most heads up racing. MT has put more R&D into small tire racing over the past 20yrs than everyone else combined. Espc radials. Cars are faster on 315 radial than they on Pro Mod slicks, and by a bunch..... current record of 3.57 at 206mph in the 1/8th... 3.69 on a 275 radial. Pro Mods struggle to go 3.70s. Heck my C4 runs low 5s and 1.15 60ft on the SS 275 which is a real street tire.
The only place MT does not have the best tire is the NHRA Fuel classes and Pro Stock. Goodyear owns them period. Goodyear is a giant of a company, the team relationships they yave and the R&D $$$$$$ they have spent in those classes over the past 35+ yrs can't be matched.
Lots of experience with Hoosier. The bias slicks are fast for a short period on high powered cars.... right before the sidewall gets knocked out of them. Lots of guys run them for No Prep but I'd rather not take tire tips from guys that destroy hundred thousand dollar race cars every weekend. Their 275 radial was pretty good about 10yrs ago but they stalled out on the R&D and MT has just ran away from them. They are fine tires for bracket racing.
M&H. You got to be kidding. They haven't made a competitive drag racing tire since the 1960s.

Will, I tried a pair of MT, I don't remember exactly what type but it was similar size as stock, and they were not new. I can check.
I did not like them at all when driving on the street. Even with higher pressure it felt like running with flat tires, very unstable. Higher tire pressure did not help much.
Same when racing, first 1/8 was ok then the rear started to feel all over the place.
Then I bought a set of new 255/50-16 Hoosier DR and no problem at all for street driving. Even quite hard cornering felt ok. About 30 psi tire pressure.
Totally stable at the race track also at lower pressure.
When those wore out I bought the 295/50-16 Hoosier DR2 and I am equally happy with them.
My best launch is 1.54 60ft and that is with a race weight probably 3800 lbs. Quite a bit heavier than stock.
