Any ideas on how to quiet valve lifters easily to begin with

Welcome and hope you find some answers to your question.

A little more info about the lifter noise could help.
Are the lifters noisy at every start up, or more especially if the engine is really cold?
Does it have the same tapping sound the entire time the car is running?
If the lifters are noisier at cold start up and not as much is the engine has only been off a few minutes, I would suspect dirty oil or deposits are interfering with the function of the lifter at start up. An oil change should take care of this.
If the lifter noise persists, see if you can narrow it down to a particular lifter or lifters. Even though hydraulic lifters are basically "set and forget" you can still have a change in lash that could cause noise from the lifter. There are YouTube videos that show how to adjust the lash.
Other causes of the valve lifter noise could be a lifter (or lifters) going bad or a bent push rod.
Here's hoping just a simple oil change will cure the lifter noise.
